The Company Prodimar, of La Coruna, supported by El Plan Galego of I+D+i, has designed an electronic system which permits the control of an unlimited number of keys automatically. The news was made public yesterday by the Conselleria de Innovacion e Industria. (The Council for Innovation and Industry).

The Department of La Xunta points out that, frequently, Companies supplying services do work on hours completely different to their clients, which requires to have the keys available for access to the premises, implying a great responsibility.

Until now the method of key-custody used to be done by manually documented control: a person has the custody of the keys and the workers request them. All is done manually and finally they are handed over by a signed receipt. But this system leads to error and confusion, losses and poor protection, and for this reason this Company from A Coruna, has patented the complete development of an automatic system of custody.

The equipment, according to La Conselleria, is composed of key rings of electronic identification, modules of hooks through which the system communicates with the key rings, and finally, a website which deals with the whole thing.

The system in charge of the handling, return and relocation of the keys, activates an alarm in the event that one of the keys is removed without authorisation, as explained one of the first Investigators of the project, Francisco Javier Marque.

The system, which does not require batteries, has an inbuilt design ''antivandals'' and it is fully resistant to the hard wearing conditions of use.

Marque also pointed out that within the market there are other systems of automatic custody of keys, but that they are of a very high cost per key, and have a ''difficult adaptability to all the different types of keys'', and a ''very excessive'' volume of storage, while the product provided by Prodimar is ''much superior'' in all aspects and increases the ''security and confidence''.
